This unique yoga mat features a high-quality tatami upper, PVC rubber non-slip under-layer, and edging done by world-renowned Japanese denim manufacturer Kaihara. Known for its cooling, anti-bacterial and absorptive properties along with its pleasant natural aroma, tatami tends to all the needs of an avid yoga practitioner. The rolling shades of this particular mat also tell the story of the seasons as they run through natural shades of green, yellow and brown.

Thanks to its absorptive and deodorising properties and stylish design, this mat is also popular for use in the kitchen and about the home. The soft rush used to weave these mats, which contain the phytoncides, gives the mat its deodorising properties. Phytoncides are what make forest bathing (Shin-rin-yoku) such a pleasant experience, and even help to reduce odours from smoking, pets, drains and sweat.

Unlike other similar products, these mats are only made with the finest quality soft rush, meaning they are long lasting, resistant to colour fading, hard wearing and their deodorising properties will last for up to 20 years.

  • Made in Japan by Ikehiko
  • Dimensions: W60cm x L180cm
  • There may be slight differences (colour, size, handwriting) between products as they are handmade

Ikehiko was founded in Fukuoka prefecture in 1886, and started as a producer of tatami mats. For the past 130 years they have continued to make high quality tatami mats which have clearly stood the test of time. In 2012, they even began to grow and harvest their own soft rush to help offset the gradual decline in production due to Japan’s aging population.

After harvesting, unlike some manufacturers, Ikehiko does not process the rush in any way, ensuring it maintains all of its natural qualities, and remains smooth to the touch. During the making of the mat, in order to further your enjoyment, Ikehiko also adds Hiba (hinoki leaf) essence from Aomori Prefecture, complementing the natural fragrance and further increasing the anti-bacterial and deodorising properties of the mat.

This mat can only be cleaned by wiping with a damp cloth. Do not store when damp/wet.

Allow to air (preferably in the sun) before first use.
