Kawaguchi-ya Lacquerware was founded in 1946 and is the winner of multiple prefecture awards in addition to an art competition.
The series we present to you is the 87.5 series which was first presented in 2015. Using traditional methods, natural wood is coated in various types of lacquer in order, boosting its resistance to water, rot, and bacteria. The name “87.5” comes from Sasaki-sans desire to put Shikoku and Kagawa Prefectures lacquerware products on the map. Kawaguchi-ya’s factory is located between the 87th and 88th stops on the 88-temple pilgrimage route.
Lacquerware lasts a long time without requiring any special treatment, and it really excels when it comes to serving food. Not only does it look beautiful, but it is also hard to damage and keeps food hot for longer, whilst keeping your fingers safe from burns!
